FAQ: Ticket Prices
Q. Why is the Festival three days this year?
A. A lot of feedback we got last year was that the four days were just that bit too long and that a
lot of people want to be heading home on the Friday. So now it is from Tuesday 1st to Thursday 3rd July.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: If you have purchased a ticket and
need to cancel you can get a full refund up until two weeks prior the Festival,
after that we cannot make refunds. Any refunds will be paid after the
festival. Alternatively if you can find someone to replace you, we can change
the name on the ticket.
Q. How can I be kept up to date?
A. We advise you to go to the website and sign up for the e-bulletin, which will keep you up to date
with the ongoing programme development.
Q. When will the programme be available to view?
A. We have changed our website this year to show a live up to date programme that should be online
around the end of March.
Q. Why can't we buy one or two day pass/tickets?
A. Based on the feedback from previous years, we think that the best Festival experience comes from
attending more than one day to maximise the opportunities for networking, discovering potential new
collaborators and developing the skills for conversing on screenwriting at a higher level.
Q. I am a new writer, what are the best days for me to attend?
A. There is no distinction between new writers and professional writers at this year’s Festival;
all three days are pertinent for everyone. There will be sessions that will have subjects relevant
to either new writers or professionals.
Q. Why isn't the Scriptmarket running this year?
A. Although the Scriptmarket has been a huge success, with quite a
few writers being snapped up
by agents during and after the Festival, we felt that we could make it
better, and are therefore putting it on hold for this year. It will be
back in 2009 though, so keep those spec scripts handy...
Q. Why haven’t you included accommodation and food in the ticket price?
A. Individual needs for accommodation vary widely from humble bed and breakfasts to smart country hotels.
We believe it's best for delegates to make their own choices. In addition, the Screenwriters’ Festival
is a not-for-profit organisation and we aim to keep the entry prices as low as we can. Information
about accommodation can be found on our web page or by following this link -
accommodation
Q. I'm not working, how can I afford this?
A. The local screen agencies, such as South West Screen, Film London, Scottish Screen, and other
organisations such as Skillset, often have grants and bursaries available to anyone in their catchment
area for support to attend events like the Screenwriters’ Festival.
Q. Will I get to meet any agents or producers?
A. Yes, we will have more agents and producers around than you can shake a stick at. During the
three days we are arranging various agent and producer meet the writer sessions.
Q. Am I able to sell my script or get development money for it through the Festival?
A. Who knows?! As we've said before, we are getting agents and developers up to the Festival. If
you are able to get a deal, then that is fantastic; it is one of the reasons the Festival was set
up. However we cannot personally guarantee any deals, development money offers, options or sales. A
lot of people last year came prepared and were able to get their ideas and scripts optioned. Two
of our Pitching competition winners have had their ideas optioned and are in the process of either
first drafts or rewrites. Writers from the Scriptmarket who were looking for agents have since
been signed up by some of the agencies involved.
Q. If a train leaves from New York City (NYC) heading towards Los Angeles (LA) at 100 mph. Three
hours later, a train leaves LA heading towards NYC at 200 MPH. Assume there's exactly 2000 miles
between LA and NYC. When they meet, which train is closer to New York City?
A. When they meet they are in the same spot, therefore they are both the same distance from New York City.
Q. I'm a student, is there a discount?
A. For individual students, no, but for parties of 10 or more from accredited film and television
courses there is a discount - details on application.
Q. How do I get to the Festival?
A. If you go to our Accommodation and Travel page on our website, you will find all the information about
travelling to Cheltenham and accommodation information.
Q. Is there space for parking?
A. Not on site but we have parking available at a couple of local hotels who have made their sites available.
They are both within walking distance of the Festival venue. If you are staying at the Travelodge,
which is next door to the Manor, you have automatic parking. Instructions about parking will be made
available closer to the Festival.
Q. What is the world’s fastest fish?
A. The Indo-Pacific Sailfish, Istiophorus platypterus. It has been measured in excess of 110km/h (68mph)
over short periods. This fish grows to over 3.4m in total length and 100kg in weight.
Q. Will there be a Delegate list on arrival?
A. We apologise for the lack of Delegate Lists in the two previous years. We are going to rectify this,
as this year we are planning an online Delegate list, which will come online around April. There it
will automatically update as Delegates sign up and will only show the information each Delegate wishes to show.
